Risk Warnings

Written by Transak Team | Feb 11, 2026 8:49:20 AM

Crypto‑assets are high‑risk and can lose value quickly.

Prices can change rapidly and unpredictably; you could lose some or all of the money used to buy crypto‑assets. No deposit protection or investor‑compensation scheme applies to losses in crypto‑assets.

Not all crypto‑assets or services are the same or regulated in the same way

The EU Markets in Crypto‑Assets Regulation (MiCA) regulates activities involving certain types of crypto‑assets. Many crypto‑assets remain highly volatile and risky, and protections vary by asset type and service. Review the information made available to you and consider whether crypto‑assets are suitable for your circumstances.

Authorisation matters.

If you choose a provider that is not authorised in the EU, or one established outside the EU, you may face higher risks, and you may have limited or no consumer‑protection rights. You can verify whether a provider is authorised by consulting the EU public register of authorised crypto‑asset service providers maintained by ESMA. Note: some Member States apply a transitional period until July 2026, during which certain firms may operate under national rules; MiCA protections may not apply to services from such providers until they are authorised under MiCA.

Beware of misleading promotions and aggressive marketing

Information online—especially on social media—can be confusing, incomplete or inaccurate; some promoters or influencers may be paid to advertise particular crypto‑assets. Treat promises of high or guaranteed returns with extreme caution, and always check the source.

Liquidity risk

You may not be able to sell a crypto‑asset when you want or at a price you expect, particularly during periods of market stress.

Fraud, scams and cybersecurity risks

Phishing, social‑engineering and other scams, as well as hacks of platforms, wallets or devices, are common. Keep your devices and any crypto‑related software up to date; use strong, unique passwords; avoid public or unsecured Wi‑Fi; and protect your private keys—loss of private keys can mean permanent and irreversible loss of access to your crypto‑assets.

Complexity and understanding

The features, value and risks of crypto‑assets (including those underlying other products) can be difficult to understand. Do not purchase or use crypto‑assets if you are unsure how they work or how their value is determined. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results.

Different types of crypto‑assets carry different rights and risk profiles

MiCA distinguishes between, for example, e‑money tokens (EMTs), asset‑referenced tokens (ARTs) and other crypto‑assets; protections and obligations differ across categories, and some assets and services fall outside MiCA. Always review the information provided for the specific asset and service you intend to use.
